ஆப்பிரிக்காவிலுள்ள நைஜர் நாட்டின் அகடெஸ் நகரிலிருந்து வறுமை காரணமாக 60 பேர் ஐரோப்பிய நாடுகளுக்கு குடிபுக சஹாரா பாலைவனம் வழியாக இரு வாகனங்களில் பயணம் மேற்கொண்டனர். சஹாரா பாலைவனத்தின் மையத்தில் அமைந்துள்ள அல்ஜீரியா நாட்டின் டாமன்ரசட் என்ற நகரை நோக்கி சென்ற அவர்களது வாகனங்கள் ஒன்றில் கோளாறு ஏற்பட்டது.

இதையடுத்து வாகனத்தில் பயணம் மேற்கொள்ள முடியாமல் பெண்கள், குழந்தைகள் என அவர்கள் கால் நடையாக பல்வேறு குழுக்களாக பிரிந்து பாலைவனத்தை கடக்க முயன்றனர். பல நாட்கள் நூற்றுக்கணக்கான மைல் பாலைவனத்தில் நடந்த அவர்களது உடலில் தண்ணீர் வற்றிய நிலையில் தொண்டை வறண்டு போனது.

இதனால் உயிருக்கு போராடிய அவர்களில் 35 பேர் குடிக்க தண்ணீரின்றி இறந்து போயினர். சிலர் மட்டும் எப்படியோ பல நாட்கள் நடந்து வழியில் இருந்த அர்லிட் நகரை அடைந்தனர். பின்னர் அவர்கள் நடந்த சம்பவத்தை ராணுவத்தினரிடம் தெரிவித்தனர். இதையடுத்து செய்தி வெளியே தெரியவந்துள்ளது.

சமீபத்தில் ஐரோப்பிய நாடுகளுக்கு மத்திய தரைக்கடல் வழியாக படகில் பயணம் மேற்கொண்டவர்கள் நூற்றுக்கணக்கானோர் கடலில் மூழ்கி இறந்தது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.

On Wednesday morning a different scene was played out at the Government Botanical Garden (GBG) when the famous garden became an open air yoga training centre with several foreigners engaged in the art of yoga in natural and scenic surroundings. The scene may have seemed strange to locals and visitors to the garden but to the participants it was a yoga session with a difference.

Sree Vasudev, a Trinidad and Tobago-based yoga trainer who heads the Blue Star Yoga Foun*dation in his country, said that he has been travelling across the world to train people in yoga, the ancient Indian art related to health of the mind and body.

He is among a group of 40 foreigners from different countries like US, Canada, Germany, Holla*nd, Hungary, Romania and Australia who are visiting various places in India where ancient yoga skills are still being taught as they were in the years of yore.

"We had been to Kerala and also to the Isha Foundation in Coimba*tore. On our way to Mysore we chose Ooty in order to enjoy the beauty of the hills. In Ooty, we chose to visit GBG and hold a practice session in the garden to enjoy the exercises pertaining to yoga.

"The flowers in the garden, the fresh air with a nip to it amidst green surroundings gave us an ambience that drew extra enthusiasm for yoga practice," he said.

"We did some basic yoga and breathing exercises so that the lungs as well as the physique could be recharged with the oxygen in the fresh air. It would be good if residents as well as tourists use the beautiful garden surroundings to learn and practice yoga as fresh air is a distinct element available in GBG" he explained.

இப்போதெல்லாம் ஓரிரு படங்களிலேயே இயக்குநர்களின் 'ஸ்டஃப்' தீர்ந்து விடுகிறதோ என்ற கேள்வியை எழுப்பியுள்ளது. சற்குணத்தின் இயக்கத்தில் வெளிவந்திருக்கும் நய்யாண்டி படம்! களவாணி, வாகை சூட வா என முதலிரு படங்களிலும் வித்தியாசம் காட்டிய சற்குணம், நய்யாண்டியை இரண்டாம் தர இயக்குநர் ஒருவர் திக்கித் திணறித் தரும் அறிமுகப் படம் மாதிரி தந்திருக்கிறார்.

ஹீரோ தனுஷைப் பொறுத்தவரை அவரது பட எண்ணிக்கையில் ஒன்றைக் கூட்ட இந்கப் படம் உதவியிருக்கிறது என்பதைத் தவிர சொல்ல ஒன்றுமில்லை. ஆடுகளத்துக்குப் பிறகு, பெரிய வெற்றிப் படம் எதையும் தமிழில் தனுஷ் தரவே இல்லை என்பதை நினைவில் கொள்ளுங்கள்!

தனுஷ் போன்ற நடிகர்கள் கருத்து சொல்வதில் உள்ள கவனத்தை தனக்கான கதைத் தேர்வில் காட்டினால் நன்றாக இருக்கும்.

இனி நய்யாண்டி படத்தின் கதை... ஒரு கிராமத்துத் திருவிழாவுக்குப் போகும் தனுஷ் அங்கு நஸ்ரியாவைப் பார்க்கிறார். தமிழ் சினிமா வழக்கப்படி காதல். ஆனால் நஸ்ரியா முரண்டுபிடிக்க, தனுஷுக்குள் இருக்கும் 'ரொம்ப்ப நல்லவனை' கொஞ்சம் வெளியில் விடுகிறார்.

ஒரு நாளிரவு பனைமரத்தில் கள்ளடித்துவிட்டு அப்படியே அடுத்த மரத்துக்கு தாவுகிறார். இதை ஒளிந்திருந்து நஸ்ரியா பார்க்க, அடுத்த காட்சியிலேயே கட்டிப்பிடித்து காதலிக்க ஆரம்பிக்கிறார்கள்.

ஒரு நெருக்கடியான சூழலில் திருமணம் செய்து கொள்கிறார்கள். இப்போது சிக்கல், தனுஷின் திருமணமாகாத முதிர் அண்ணன்கள் ரூபத்தில். இவர்களை வைத்துக் கொண்டு தான் திருமணம் செய்துகொண்டதைச் சொன்னால் சரியாக இருக்காதே என்று, தன் வீட்டுக்கே நஸ்ரியாவை, அநாதைப் பெண்ணாக நண்பன் சூரி மூலம் அனுப்பி வேலைக்கு சேர்த்துவிடுகிறார் தனுஷ்.

சில பல கலாட்டாக்களுக்குப் பிறகு, உண்மையைச் சொல்லி எப்படி சுமுகமாகிறார்கள் என்பதுதான் நய்யாண்டி. க்ளைமாக்ஸ் உள்பட பல காட்சிகள் ஏற்கெனவே பல படங்களில் பார்த்த மாதிரிதான் உள்ளன. இந்த லட்சணத்தில் மூலக்கதை என ஒரு மலையாளப் படத்துக்கு கிரெடிட் வேறு!

தனுஷுக்கு பெரிதாக வேலை எதுவும் இல்லை. அப்பாவின் பாத்திரக் கடையில் வேலை, நண்பர்களுடன் ஜாலியாக சுற்றிக் கொண்டு, நஸ்ரியாவுக்காக மரம் விட்டு மரம் தாவி, அடியாட்களுடன் சண்டை போட்டு... எதுவும் புதுசில்லை. கதைக்காக பெரிதாக மெனக்கெடுவதாகச் சொல்லிக் கொள்ளும் தனுஷ், இப்படியொரு கதையைத் தேர்வு செய்தது ஏன் என்று புரியவில்லை.

தனுஷால் சற்குணம் கெட்டாரா... சற்குணத்தால் தனுஷ் கெட்டாரா என்பது அவர்களுக்கே வெளிச்சம். நஸ்ரியா... இந்தப் படத்தில் சுமாராகத்தான் தெரிகிறார். அதுவும் தனுஷுடன்... ஆழாக்கும் ஒல்லிக்குச்சியும் மாதிரிதான் இவர்களின் பொருத்தம் உள்ளது. மற்றபடி, சில காட்சிகளில் இயல்பான நடிப்பு தெரிகிறது (கடைசி காட்சி வரை இடுப்புக்கு மேல் ஒரு துணி, அதற்கும் மேல் தலைப்பாகட்டு மாதிரி ஒரு துணி சுற்றிக் கொண்டுதான் நஸ்ரியா வருகிறார். இதில் தொப்புளும், இஸ்லாமும் எங்கே வந்தன என்றுதான் தெரியவில்லை!!). ஸ்ரீமனும் சத்யனும் இடைவேளைக்குப் பின் கிச்சுகிச்சு மூட்டுகிறார்கள்.

நஸ்ரியாவின் கர்ப்பத்துக்கு யார் காரணம் என்ற பிரச்சினையில், எதற்கும் சின்ன வண்டை கேளுங்கப்பா என ஸ்ரீமன் கூற, 'அவன் பச்ச மண்ணுடா' என பிரமிட் நடராஜன் சொல்லும் காட்சியில், எல்லா குறைகளையும் மறந்து கலகலக்கிறது தியேட்டர்.

தனுஷின் நண்பனாக வரும் பரோட்டா சூரிக்கு, ஒரே மாதிரி வேடம், ஒரே மாதிரி டயலாக் என்றாகிவிட்டது. அவ்வளவு பெரிய கோடீஸ்வரரான நஸ்ரியா அப்பா நரேன், ஒரு சுண்டைக்காய் வில்லன் காலில் விழுந்து கதறுவதும், திருமணமாகி கர்ப்பமாகவும் உள்ள பெண்ணைப் போய் தூக்கிக் கொண்டு வில்லன் பறப்பதும்... ம்ஹூம்.. முடியல!

வேல்ராஜினி ஒளிப்பதிவு நன்றாகத்தான் உள்ளது. இந்தப் படத்துக்கெல்லாம் எதுக்குங்க பாரின் ஸாங் என்று அவராவது இயக்குநரிடம் கேட்டிருக்கலாம். பாடல்கள் பெரிதாக நினைவில் இல்லை. பின்னணி இசை என்றெல்லாம் ரொம்ப மெனக்கெடவில்லை ஜிப்ரான். தேசிய விருது பெற்ற நடிகர், இயக்குநர்... இருவருமே தங்களைத் தாங்களே நய்யாண்டி செய்து கொள்ள இப்படியொரு படமெடுத்திருக்கிறார்கள் போல!

Court allows girl to attend father's funeral

An 18-year-old Vanniyar girl, who eloped with a Dalit boy, attended her father's funeral on Sunday following a Madras High Court order.

The court has also ordered that counselling be provided for the girl.

Justice K.B.K. Vasuki passed the order, following a petition by the girl's mother, at a special sitting at the Judge's residence on Sunday.

On October 8, Priya alias Vishnupriya, an engineering student of Jagannathapura Chatram village, ran away with Ranjith. Following this, her father, Ravi, committed suicide.

The incident bore a striking resemblance to the one at Dharmapuri last year where the father of a girl who married a Dalit boy, ended his life. The youth Ilavarasan's body was found by the side of a railway track in Dharmapuri on July 4.

In the present case, the girl's mother, Manjula of Sholavaram, filed the petition, requesting Priya's presence at her father's funeral. Priya was brought from the Government Vigilance Home, Mylapore, on Sunday and produced before the Judge who enquired about her willingness to attend the funeral. After she said was willing to be present, and considering the situation as stated by the police, the family circumstances and an undertaking by the petitioner and her brother-in-law, the court said it would permit Priya to attend her father's funeral.

The court said the girl should be brought back to the Home. After her return, the court stated, the police should arrange counselling for the girl at Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital from October 14 to October 17 by the head of the department of psychiatry.

The Judge ordered Priya should be produced before the court on October 18 for passing appropriate final orders on the petition.

A 5.1-magnitude earthquake hit South-west Pakistan on Saturday and tremors were felt in some areas that were devastated by a deadly temblor last month.
The epicentre of the quake was 72 km southwest of Khuzdar in Balochistan province, according to the US Geological Survey.

The quake struck at a depth of 24.9 km, Express News reported. No loss of life or property was immediately reported.

Meteorologists said the tremors were felt in Khuzdar, and towns in Awaran and Kharan districts, located near the epicentre of last month's 7.7-magnitude quake that killed nearly 500 people and left 100,000 others homeless.

It was Pakistan's deadliest quake since the 2005 devastating Kashmir tremor, which killed 73,000.

South-western Balochistan is Pakistan's largest province with large oil and gas reserves, but it remains impoverished and affected by political instability and a nationalist insurgency.

On September 27, an aftershock measuring 5 on the Richter scale rocked the Awaran region. A day later, a 6.8-magnitude quake hit Pakistan's South-west and killed at least 12 people.

On October 9, tremors were felt once again in areas of Balochistan.

According to the Pakistan Army, 62,429 quake-affected families have been provided aid, medical attention and tents.

The army has deployed 2,400 troops, including personnel from the Medical Corps, in the affected areas.

In a department already plagued by accusations of racial targeting, 100 percent of dog bite victims in the first six months of 2013 were blacks and Latinos.
In the past nine years, the minority-heavy, urban areas of Century, City of Industry, Compton, Lakewood, and South LA/Lennox, experienced more dog bites than 21 other agencies or stations combined.

One of the more troubling aspects of the report found that police canines cause injuries at far higher rates than other weapons, such as batons, tear gas, and guns. The pressure from a dog bite is equivalent to "a car tire running over a body part," as one federal judge put it.

Dog bites are not the only police tactic blacks and Latinos in Los Angeles have to fear. The LASD has racked up a lengthy racial profiling record. The Department of Justice found that the LASD systematically singles out blacks and Latinos for stops, seizures, and excessive force at higher rates than other races.

LASD officers regularly target immigrants without legal authority. A class-action lawsuit against the department charged the LASD was holding thousands of immigrants in jail cells for longer than the legal maximum of 48 hours. Detained immigrants were also not allowed to post bail even after a court allowed it. In 2011, the sheriff's department illegally detained nearly 20,000 people on immigration holds for an average of three weeks longer than inmates without immigration holds.

Los Angeles' African American community has also seen excessive violence from the sheriff's department. Last year, officers shot an 18-year-old African American teen while he was handcuffed, and then later tried to cover up the killing. Around the same time, officers stomped on a young black woman's genitals before forcing her into the backseat of a police vehicle. The woman later died, leaving behind two young children.

Bruce Chase, the lieutenant in charge of the canine unit, insists that the department has and will continue to reduce its percentage of dog bites. Still, the LASD has been entrenched in police-sanctioned canine brutality since the 1980s. At the time, police called black youths "dog biscuits."

பீகார் மாநிலம் காகரியா மாவட்டம் மோர்சாய் போலீஸ் நிலையத்தில் சப்–இன்ஸ்பெக்டராக பணியாற்றி வருபவர் சத்யேந்திர சிங். அந்த பகுதியை சேர்ந்த இளம் பெண் ஒருவர் காதலனுடன் வீட்டை விட்டு ஓடினார்.

இதுதொடர்பாக அந்த பெண்ணின் பெற்றோர் மோர்சாய் போலீஸ் நிலையத்தில் புகார் செய்தனர். புகார் தொடர்பாக சப்– இன்ஸ்பெக்டர் சத்யேந்திர சிங் விசாரணை நடத்தி வந்தார். இதை அறிந்ததும் அந்த பெண் போலீஸ் நிலையத்தில் தஞ்சம் அடைந்தார்.

விசாரணைக்கு சென்ற அந்த பெண்ணை சப்– இன்ஸ்பெக்டர் சத்யேந்திர சிங் போலீஸ் நிலையத்தில் வைத்தே கற்பழித்துள்ளார்.
